Our Order was founded by Venerable Maria Celeste Crostarosa and St. Alphonsus Liguori in Italy in 1731. Sr. Maria Celeste was born in Naples on October 31st, 1696. When she was 20 years old, she entered a convent in Marigliano. However this convent closed and she went to the convent in Scala.
During a time of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, suddenly in the Host, there appeared the cross, mounted on the hill of Calvary and the instruments of the passion. This led to the founding of our Redemptoristine Order. During meditations after Communion, Jesus revealed to Sr. Maria Celeste, our Rule of Life and our charism to be “living memories” of Jesus Our Redeemer. We are to give joyful witness to the Risen Christ.
We are an Order of Colistered Contemplative Nuns, living a contemplative monastic life under Papal Enclosure. Our red habit, black veil and medal of the Risen Redeemer are a sign of Christ’s redeeming love.
